6daEXIt Improvisation Ensemble

The improvisation classes I held in the Music Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki during the years 2005-09 were the basis for the foundation of 6daEXIt Improvisation Ensemble. Since its foundation in 2007, 6daEXIt is developed in one of the most important independent  improvisation and experimental music groups in Greece, with dozens of live performances and weekly meetings in Thessaloniki. 6daEXIt group plays free improvisation as well as verbal and graphic scores. We have presented scores by Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Carl Bergstrom-Nielsen, Michael Pisaro, Makoto Nomura, Liliana Rodriguez Alvarado, Vassilis Chatzimakris, Samuel Vriezen, Daniel Barbiero, myself and many others.

Sound Pool is an experimental project curated by Alexis Porfiriadis.

Sound Pools IV onward: 7 or 8 invited musicians - two 30-minute sessions - no preparation and no arrangements prior to the performance - anyone can leave and visit the stage anytime.

Sound Pools I to III: A large number of musicians (17 to 19) are invited to improvise in duos, trios, quartets and quintets. All combinations are being selected using chance operations just before the concert. This means that it can be that musicians who never played together before, will have to improvise in a group and find ways to communicate. It also can be that the 'instrumentation' of the group could be a 'difficult' one. The idea is to observe the decisions players will make in order to make an interesting session.

WORKSHOPS
Since 2007 I convened a number of improvisation and experimental music workshops in academic and non-academic contexts in Greece and Cyprus. From 2014 to 2017 my improvisation and experimental music workshop was part of the workshop program of the Nakas Conservatory Athens. The members of the 2014-16 class presented some of the most demanding verbal and graphic scores like Edges by Christian Wolff, But what about the noise by John Cage, Paragraph 6 from the Great Learning by Cornelius Cardew in a concert in Nakas Conservatory Athens.
